Health Nut vs. Death Nut – Which one are you?

I’m sure you have heard it before. You gather round with friends or are introduced to someone new and invariably the conversation come up “so what are you into” or some such intro.

You fire back about your passion for healthy living and you likely say some things and terms that they are not familiar with.

They then reply, “Oh, so you’re one of those health nuts.  Yeah well, I really don’t do that kinda stuff.”

I don’t know about you but my retort is often then “Oh, so you’re one of those death nuts.”

My view is very simple: you’re either into health or you’re into death… or you could possibly tone it down and say they’re a sick nut but I’m sure that could be misconstrued many ways as well.

The point is that in all of our travels when we do what we know is right we will inevitably meet up with opposition.

It will of course come in many forms: from Aunt Edna (I don’t have an Aunt Edna, but I always wanted to say that line) offering you a huge slice of her favorite bundt cake to having a new ice cream parlor put right next door to your post office you frequent twice a week.

Other temptations come in the form of putting off ordering our heath products until we’re already out or buying the slightly cheaper non-organic produce here and there.

Whenever you are assailed by these temptations always remember you come from a brotherhood/sisterhood with a long lineage of conquering all obstacles in their way.

Yes, those that have blazed the non-Twinkie® trail… those that have quashed the cola quenching for decades before you are here to give you strength.

For you shall never forget that you belong to the royal order of the Health Nut!

And though you may be unpopular at parties you will live long and prosper.

I only kind of apologize for the tongue-in-cheek above. I just wanted to really make the point that health is a lifestyle; it’s what you do…it’s who you are.

I wanted to let you know that I too, just like you, face the same challenges. Everyone in the entire NutriHarmony family endures the same things and though we may feel a bit alien at times remember we are not alone (OK…couldn’t resist that one).

I also wanted to say that I applaud your courage and integrity to do what you know is right for your health and the health of your family and friends.

I hope you’ll agree with me when I say, I am proud to be a health nut and want to postpone that death nut thing for as long as possible.

So as you’re assailed with temptation after temptation remember every one of them that you stand firm against makes you stronger. Even the fact that you have read this and have mentally agreed to tighten your resolve has yet again just made you stronger.

Have a great day!
Patrick Shelley

Why Do I Need A Multi-Vitamin?

Well there are truly so many reasons I could write a book about it but here are just a few:

* Do you have any idea how much vitamin B-6 your body needs; how about B-2 or any of the other huge range of vitamins?

I’m not talking about my body or your neighbor’s body…I’m talking about your body.

Well, if you don’t know exactly what your precise individual needs are don’t feel bad, you’re not alone. Scientists need blood, urine, hair, skin and saliva samples and a whole slew of million dollar analytical devices to be able to properly give you that answer.

* Do you know how much B-6, B-2 or any other vitamin is in “your” diet?

Once again not my diet, not your neighbors diet but “your” diet.

You would need to analyze every foodstuff you consumed for at least 3 months. The costs would be rather pricey. Let’s say you eat 120 different foods over a 3 month period. Then let’s say that at least 20% of those foods come from a variety of growers. Every banana you eat does not come from the same grower every time.

So if 20% came from an average of 3 sources, which would give us around 192 variables to test; each test for nutrient density costing $450.00, that would give you a grand total of $86,400.00.

So, once again don’t feel bad about not knowing exactly how much of each nutrient is in your diet…NOBODY DOES.

That’s precisely why you desperately need a multi-vitamin. Because you have to ensure you’re getting all the nutrients you need and without all the testing mentioned above in both areas, you would never know if you’re even getting close to the mark.

Now, you already know you need a real food multi-vitamin because chemical vitamins are not only worthless but actually may be toxic (see your Sept. newsletter below for reference).

And now you for sure know you really DO need to take a multi-vitamin every day to ensure you are covering all of your nutritional bases.

Guess what? NutriHarmony has the only Real Food™ Multi-Vitamin in the world and if you’re not yet on it you should take a serious look at it right now.

Happy Nutri-New Year!

As we toast with Enfusia™ to ring in the year
we wash down our multi’s for peace and good cheer.

As friends gather round us we take our LifeCode™
to safeguard our tummies and cut trips to the commode.

When the new year starts we laugh and we cry
but with Vanilla Bean lotion our cheeks are not dry.

We recount all our fellows, some nice and some mean,
then we get really mellow with The Garden and Greens™.

As midnight is coming and the clock counts down
we shout three cheers for all and whey all around.

From my house to yours, “Good tidings,” you hear,
“we care for you all and Happy Nutri-New Year!”

We at NutriHarmony really do wish you the best New Year possible and value your friendship that we have been so fortunate you have shared.

Winter Dehydration

Most people only associate dehydration with the hotter and in many places dryer part of the year, but not so…dehydration can sneak up on you in the winter time too!

In many cases people will cut their fluid intakes during the winter because they don’t perceive as great a need. They don’t see themselves sweating and are not generally doing the outdoor yard work or as much activity in the heat as they do in the summer months.

However much of your water loss will be just from breathing, let alone normal losses and mild sweating that we all do. Another thing you need to take into account is during the holiday season we consume much more salty food such as ham or rich roasted nuts and maybe some chips, etc…. You really need to take into consideration the effects of all that salt.

Many will also consume alcohol in more shall we say liberal quantities than most other times of the year and as everyone knows alcohol is quite dehydrating.

What can You do about it? Yes of course drink more PURE water BUT be sure it’s pure water and not coffee or other beverages that you are counting as your water intake. Only pure water can be counted as part of your WATER intake.

Drink more Enfusia™; the herbs of Enfusia™ can actually help your body to hydrate better than other beverages and it will do wonders for your energy levels too.

Thank you,
Patrick Shelley

Goofy Health Fact:

The surface area inside a human lung is equal to the surface area of a tennis court.

Your lungs are filled with thousands of branching bronchi and very tiny alveoli. They are then filled up with microscopic capillaries. This huge amount of surface area is needed for enough oxygen exchange to keep you correctly oxygenated.

How to Get the Greatest Benefit from Joint ReForm™!

Everyone is raving about the effects of NutriHarmony’s new product Joint ReForm™.  All I can say is thank you…your comments are much appreciated.

So…are there any tips that I can share with you as to how to get the greatest benefit out of the product?
Sure thing.

  1. Take Joint ReForm™ on an empty stomach and wait at least 30 minutes to eat and an hour if you can. Why? Although Joint ReForm™ is not a full protein, per se, it will compete with other proteins for pathways in the body; so as such please also remember not to drink it with whey protein or milk at the same time.
  2. Use 1 capsule or more of Multi-Vitamin with your serving. Why? The vitamin C in the multi will help your body to use the product better.
  3. Take it with other NutriHarmony products at the same time (just not the whey protein). Why? The other accessory nutrients will help you to use the product more effectively and supply the building blocks for many types of processes.
  4. Drink and massage. As an example let’s say your knee is the joint giving you grief. Drink your Joint ReForm™ on an empty stomach and then strongly massage the affected knee area. You will stimulate blood flow which will as you know help the nutrients reach the site and help eliminate waste from the area.
  5. Drink your Joint ReForm™ with 14 to 16 ounces of pure water. Water hydrates your body and your joints depend on hydration to pardon the pun ‘keep them fluid’ and moveable. Not drinking enough water is one of the worst things you can do for your joints.

* Disclaimer: please consult your nutritionally educated heath care practitioner prior to engaging in any dietary or exercise changes.

Goofy Health Fact:

There is a myth that spinach is exceedingly high in iron. Yes it does contain iron but not at levels commonly thought. The myth started from a tabloid mistake that placed the decimal point one place too far over to the left. Even though this misprint was corrected some 70 years ago it has not changed public perception to this day.

What is health?

What does it mean if you say you are healthy?

Well, many would define this as “the absence of disease” but that’s rather like the National Football League saying a player is healthy if nothing’s broken, meaning “he’s healthy; he can play” nothing’s broken bad enough to keep him out of the game.

All across America at seminars for more than 20 years I have asked the question, “How many in this room would consider themselves healthy?  Please raise your hand and keep it up.”

Then I would ask, “Please keep your hand up if you’re on 1 or more prescriptions” in many cases more than ½ of the hands stayed up.

Then I would ask, “How many are on 2 or more prescriptions?” and then ask 3 or more, etc.  In a large room of people I have gotten all the way to asking, “Who is on 11 or more prescriptions?” (that’s not a joke) and I had 1 person on 11 or more prescriptions.

But these are all the same people who raised their hands saying they considered themselves healthy.

Did you know that in 1950 only around 6,000 people in the USA were diagnosed with depression but that in 2008 more than 164 MILLION prescriptions for antidepressants were written?

I say this to illustrate my point…and that is we need to stop being so soft on ourselves and accepting society’s opinion or view about what being healthy is or isn’t.  It’s time to clearly define what being healthy is and set our goals to achieve it.  If we look to our peers and attempt to be average so that we may falsely feel good about ourselves then we are doomed to experience their same disease and suffering.

So, what would I define as being healthy?

Well, of course some of this is age related, so as to establish a mean, we will pick an age of let’s say 45 years old and you can simply plus or minus a few factors from there.

At 45 what would “being healthy” mean to me?

  • Yes of course it means that you don’t have any major health challenges that are severely compromising your well-being.
  • When you wake in the morning you’re fully rested, not still tired, but instead ready to take on the day.
  • You can, on any day you choose, go push your body to its limits either physically or mentally and actually enjoy the event and you can recover quickly from such activities.
  • You truly have a strong internal energy or fire that is a driving force providing you with a zest for life.
  • Your immune system functions well enough to keep you free of most of the things everyone else always come down with. Yes, occasionally we all get hit with one, but it should be very infrequent.
  • You should really not need the services of a doctor other than an annual checkup or if you injure yourself in sports or recreational activities.

Yes, there could be more criteria I could easily establish but these should serve as a basal starting point.

How do you achieve such health?

It’s easy really…Being healthy is a two-way street or a 50/50 proposition. What this means is: health is 50% what you do and 50% what you don’t do so below I will share a small basic list of a FEW do’s and don’ts.

Do’s and Don’ts (the short list)

Don’ts

  • Don’t eat processed sugar no matter what anyone tells you; avoid processed sugars like the plague and you will be happier for it.
  • Don’t let stress get at you to the point where you can physically feel its effects. Yes, we all deal with stress but when we allow it to take us over it can have serious negative consequences.
  • Stay away from foods that come in boxes or cans as much as possible. The rule of thumb is no more that 10% of your dietary calories should come from a highly processed overly packaged source.
  • Don’t let the addicts convince you that you’re wrong. This is to say that if you’re following these basic health advices then you can trust in the fact that you’re doing the right thing but others around you that are addicted to the processed chemical laden foods or all the sugar will attempt to pull you back into its clutches because they know you’re right but don’t want to give up their addictions.

Do’s

  • Do get exercise 5 days per week (if you’re in good enough shape to do so to start with).
  • Do sip water all throughout the day and never allow yourself to get thirsty (if you’re thirsty that means you are already dehydrated).
  • Do eat like a caveman (unless it’s poison etc.); if you can pick it off a tree, pull it up out of the ground, spear it out of the ocean or chase it down and kill it, then by all means eat it. Of course we’re not saying eat bugs or poison berries, or worms (common sense must be applied). The intent here is eat as naturally as a caveman would have eaten and you will likely have good health because of it.
  • Do laugh, smile, love and give every chance you get. On one side of the coin you have heard that you can worry yourself sick but as all coins have 2 sides, laughter is also your best medicine.
  • Do take nutritional supplements to cover all your nutritional bases and also to combat all the things that are outside of your control that are attacking you every single day of your life. Do not take this lightly; these outside influences are at war with you and if you wish to win you need to get serious about it.
  • Yes, these are very basic, but follow them and I would be willing to bet that you will be happier for it.
  • Legal stuff so that we cover ourselves: Don’t do anything without the consent of your licensed health care practitioner. Always consult your licensed health care practitioner prior to engaging in any physical activity or dietary change (and if you’re considering actually becoming engaged consult a psychiatrist).

Here’s Your Goofy Health Fact for November 2010

Approximately 7% of a human’s body weight is made up of blood; each day approximately 400 gallons of recycled blood are pumped through the kidneys and there are about 100,000 miles of blood vessels in the human body.
